Annual Outing Details for Saturday 13 June

There are no spaces available for our annual outing on Saturday 13th. 

Our guide for the day will be Úna Walsh, who came to speak to the Society in 2025.

Please find the itinerary below.

9.15am Meet at the railway society in the large (free) car park at Rathkeltair House, Ballydugan Road (opposite the leisure centre) BT30 6UU.

10.30am Arrive in Newry to pick up tour guide

The tour proceeds to the following locations:
• Derrymore House (Bessbrook): this was a summer residence of Isaac Corry, one of Newry’s two MPs at the end of the 18thc. Planning for the Act of Union is said to have taken place in the house. There will be toilet facilities available here.
• Bessbrook: a model mill village with a rich Quaker history.
• Ballykeel Dolmen
• Annaghmare Cairn (court tomb): this will be a flat, five-minute walk from the bus.

• LUNCH: Fayre and Square (Crossmaglen) – there are toilet facilities in the restaurant and also on the Square and the community centre. Lunch consists of soup and sandwiches, followed by tea/coffee and shortbread. Please forward vegan, vegetarian or any food intolerances to lecalerevieweditorial@gmail.com so that alternatives can be arranged.

• Creggan churchyard
• Killeavey church
• Depart Newry at 4.30pm
• Arrive Downpatrick at 5.30pm
