Free 1798 Workshop in Newry Museum, 27 January 10.00am
Please note details of a community event on Tuesday 27 January 2026 (10.00am-1.00pm) in Newry and Mourne Museum (Bagenal’s Castle) where groups can find out more about using archival sources to carry out relevant local research on aspects of the 1798 Rebellion. The workshop will explore ‘gaps’ in our local information and consider local personalities and stories that would benefit from further research. Colin Graham from PRONI will provide information on the resources held there. Linda McKenna will lead a session on using materials in the National Archives of Ireland and staff from Down County Museum and Newry and Mourne Museum will provide an update on what they hold and what is currently being researched.
Admission is free and there will be tea and coffee on arrival.
This workshop will be a forerunner to a joint programme of events in the autumn planned by Newry, Mourne and Down District Council and Ards and North Down Borough Council.
